Paws and Ice: A Polar Bear Expedition!
Students embarked on a frosty journey to the Arctic with majestic polar bears, the undisputed kings of the icy wilderness! These magnificent creatures, with their snowy fur and playful antics, captured the imagination of students from kindergarten to twelfth grade on December 14, 2023.
Imagine a world where these colossal white bears roam freely across vast expanses of ice, showcasing their incredible adaptations to the frigid environment. Whether you’re a curious kindergartener fascinated by their fluffy cubs or a high school student intrigued by the challenges they face in a changing climate, the polar bear’s story is an enthralling tale of survival and resilience.
Students met Alysa McCall, the superhero scientist for polar bears! She lives in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, but her second home is in Churchill, Manitoba, aka the Polar Bear Capital of the World. Alysa has been on a cool adventure studying Canadian polar bears for seven years, especially the ones in the western Hudson Bay. These bears are like climate change detectives!
Alysa’s Mission
Alysa is now with Polar Bears International, where she helps with research and cool programs to save polar bears and their icy homes. She’s on a mission to make sure there are lots of polar bears for you and your friends to see in the future! Alysa loves chatting with people worldwide about polar bears and their wildlives. Most importantly, she wants to inspire students to be climate change heroes!
