A Virtual Visit to the Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary

Discover the Heart of the Funny Farm

Recently, students and families joined us for a K12 Virtual Field Trip to the Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary, a place where compassion and curiosity come together. Located in Mays Landing, New Jersey, this incredible nonprofit is home to more than 600 rescued animals, each with a story of resilience and recovery.

Our virtual visit gave everyone a peek behind the scenes of this working rescue farm, from feeding time to barnyard playtime. Students got to see how kindness, teamwork, and a little hay can change lives.

Where Every Animal Has a Story

At the Funny Farm, no animal is turned away because of age, ability, or appearance. Many arrive after experiencing neglect or abandonment, and the team’s mission is simple yet powerful: to provide love, care, and a forever home.

During this K12 Virtual Field Trip, students met a lively mix of farm animals! They met goats, pigs, horses, alpacas, a cat, and dogs — all coexisting in harmony. Also, they discovered how volunteers work around the clock to care for these animals and give them the freedom to live together happily and safely.

Each story shared by the sanctuary reminded students that rescue work isn’t just about saving animals, it’s also about hope, empathy, and community.

Learning Beyond the Screen

This visit wasn’t just about cute animals (though there were plenty!). It was about connecting learning with real-world compassion. Students explored questions like:

  • What animal do you hold closest to your heart?
  • What kind of food do they feed them?
  • How did you get started with being a rescue farm?

Parents loved seeing how the trip sparked curiosity and empathy, two key ingredients for lifelong learning. Plus, students were invited to take part in a fun follow-up activity: What is one word that comes to mind when you think of kindness?

Plan a Visit or Get Involved

The Funny Farm Rescue & Sanctuary is more than a place to learn about compassion; it’s also a place you can experience in person! The farm is open to the public year-round and welcomes families, schools, and animal lovers to visit. Guest will have the opportunity to meet the animals and see what rescue life looks like up close.

Admission is free, though donations are always appreciated to help provide food, shelter, and medical care for the animals.

Also, visitors can volunteer, sponsor an animal, or attend one of the farm’s community events that help sustain its mission of kindness and rescue.

From brushing a horse to saying hello to a goat, every bit of kindness helps the animals.
