Learning Through Kindness: A K12 Virtual Field Trip to Unity Farm Sanctuary

There’s a place where rescue animals find safety, students discover empathy, and families learn how kindness changes the world. Welcome to the Unity Farm Sanctuary, a home for animals and a hub for education and compassion.

What is Unity Farm Sanctuary?

On the ancestral land of the Massachusett and Nipmuc tribes in Sherborn, Massachusetts is the Unity Farm Sanctuary. A nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to giving lifelong homes to farm animals in need. Since its founding in 2016, the sanctuary has grown into a safe haven for over 250 resident animals including horses, cows, pigs, goats, alpacas, llamas, and feathered friends.

Unity Farm describes it’s mission as “to provide a safe and loving lifelong home for farmed animals, to offer the public unique educational programs, and to promote a culture of kindness and connection”.

From Rescue to Recovery

Each animal rescued by Unity has a story. Stories of hope, resilience, inspiration, and empathy. Like Bob’s, a Holstein Steer who arrived at Unity with a serious infection after no longer being wanted on his farm. Stories like Bob’s remind us that kindness is more than a feeling, it’s an action. Every gentle step taken to heal, save, and care for an animal shows how powerful kindness and compassion can be.
